Academic Examples

Sample Campaign

For COM 117: Writing for Public Relations and Advertising, we were challenged to create a campaign based around course principles for either Krispy Kreme or Dunkin’ Donuts. My group was assigned Krispy Kreme and I created these sample executions for a communications campaign around the idea of brand nostalgia.

Business of Sports Media Final Project

For a final project for COM 370: The Business of Sports Media, my group and I completed a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis of the MLS.

Featured Personal Blog

During my semester abroad in the fall of 2017, my personal blog was featured as a student blog for my study abroad program. I published weekly posts about my time as a student living in Copenhagen, Denmark. During one of our study breaks, I joined fellow DIS students for a program-run trip to Kiruna, Sweden—a small town above the Arctic Circle. We spent five days snowmobiling, snowshoeing, dog-sledding, learning about Sami culture, exploring the famous Kiruna mine, and trying to walk in our snowsuits. After blogging about my experience, my post was featured on a variety of DIS social media pages.

Two more of my blog posts were featured on DIS social media throughout the semester:

American Literature Final Paper

I wrote the following paper, “Dismantling a Hero Trope: The Role of the Portrayal of War in Media and the Rhetoric of The Red Badge of Courage,” for ENG 175: Studies in American Literature.

The paper was awarded the D.A. Brown Award for Excellence in Writing. According to the Wake Forest University Department of English, “the late D.A. Brown was a member of the department for many years. He was noted for his high standards, and on his retirement, a fund was established to recognize excellence in writing.” My paper was unanimously selected by department faculty as the best paper submitted in an English Core-level course during the 2016-2017 academic year.
